General Information
The Career Technical Education (CTE) Department offers leadership and
services to all school districts in the GISD service area. The department
is the liaison
between
school districts, the GASC Technology Center and the Michigan Department
of Labor and Economic Growth, Office of Career and Technical Preparation. Currently, 100 CTE programs are in operation across
the county serving over 12,000 students in grades 9-12.
Services include:
- Technical assistance, consulting and oversight to provide quality CTE
programs in local school districts and GASC Technology Center
- Coordination of countywide Career Planning Model and web-based Education Development
Plan (EDP)
- Coordination of Superintendents Association Career Technical Education Committee
- Coordination of local CTE leadership, support and administration through the CTE Subcommittee
- Leadership and support for the Educational Advisory Group (EAG), subcommittee of the Workforce Development Board
- Financial support for shared-time CTE administrators
- Countywide professional development for CTE staff
- Partnerships with community organizations which provides resources
to promote gender equity, summer youth career planning and entrepreneurship programs
- Coordination of academic/career contextual learning
- Coordination of curriculum development to align CTE
programs to national skills standards, Michigan
Merit Curriculum and postsecondary CTE programs
- Preparation and monitoring of state MEGS CTEIS reports/grants
- Information on occupations, labor markets, Career
Pathways, and Occupational Safety and Health
- Analysis and publication of CTE statistics
- Coordination of activities in student career assessment,
community college articulation, legislative activities, gender equity programs and career preparation transition programs for special populations
- Promotion of statewide CTE leadership awards and career
technical education, including career preparation, tech prep and career development
- Coordinating scholarship programs for Genesee and
Shiawassee County youth
- Coordinating annual countywide recognition of outstanding CTE students from local and regional program
The Career Technical Education Department is also the fiscal agent for the Career Initiative Plan for Genesee and Shiawassee Counties. This includes Perkins and Tech Prep funding to improve Career Technical Education programs, the Career Planning Model and web-based Education Development Plan (EDP) programs conducted by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Office of Career and Technical Preparation.
