General InformationThe Genesee Area Math/Science Center (GAMSC) is a grant- funded program through the State Board of Education, sponsored by Genesee Intermediate School District and its 21 constituent school districts. GAMSC also serves the public school academies and private schools within Genesee County, in addition to schools in Shiawassee and Lapeer Counties. In the mid-1990s, the GAMSC was joined by its Lapeer satellite, the Lapeer County Math/Science Center, to extend services to schools in the five constituent districts of the Lapeer Intermediate School District. GAMSC operates as our search and development laboratory for innovative instructional programs and curriculum development for educators and students. The goal of GAMSC is to provide teachers, students and community members with opportunities and expertise that energizes interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science. Technology enables the GAMSC to offer professional development opportunities and Virtual Learning Experiences to students and teachers across five counties and has broadened the scope of GAMSC programming. Feedback from local districts through session evaluations, conversation during monthly GenNET administrative meetings, and state and federal initiatives (NCLB) determine the direction and focus of GAMSC programming.
