Privacy Statement

Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is the sole owner of the information it gathers on its site. GISD will only share your information with outside parties in ways that are described in this privacy statement, or if we are required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary in order to conform to the edicts of the law, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, or comply with a legal process served on our Web site.

Information Collection and Use

 Workshop and Conference Registration
In order to register online for workshops, conferences or other events, a user must first complete a registration form. During registration a user is required to give contact information such as name, employer, work and/or home mailing address, phone number and email address. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (such as position, ethnicity and gender). We use this information to register the user for activities conducted at GISD, for billing purposes, and for the purpose of providing aggregate statistics in reporting grant-funded activities. From time-to-time, we may contact the user about services on our site for which an interest has been expressed.

 Contact Us
We use a "contact us" link located at the top of every page of the site to allow you to contact us directly with any questions or comments you may have. We read every message sent in and try to reply promptly to every one. This information is used to respond directly to your questions or comments. We may also file your comments to improve the site and program, or review and discard the information. Your personal information is only shared with third parties with your explicit permission.

 Third Party Service Provider
GISD contracts with a third party to assist us in managing certain functions on our Web site, such as registration for workshops. GISD only provides third party service with the information necessary to carry out the service. Third party service providers are contractually prevented from using the information received from--and on behalf of--GISD for any purpose other than those dictated by GISD.

 Log Files and Cookies
The GISD Web site logs IP addresses and browser types for systems administration purposes. These logs will be analyzed to improve the value of the materials available on the Web site. A user's session will be tracked, but the user will be anonymous. We do not link IP addresses to any personally identifiable information.

This web site does not use cookies.

 Links
This Web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we, GISD, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.

Communications from the Site

 Newsletters
If a user wishes to subscribe to any GISD newsletter, we ask for contact information such as name, address and email address. Out of respect for our users' privacy, we provide a way to opt-out of these communications. Please see the Choice/Opt-out section below.

 Service Announcements
On rare occasions it is necessary to send out a strictly service related announcement. For instance, if our service is temporarily suspended for maintenance we might send users an email. Generally, users may not opt-out of these communications, though they can deactivate their account. However, these communications are not promotional in nature. Users may opt-out of these communications. Please see the Choice/Opt-out section below.

 Customer Service
We communicate with users on a regular basis to provide requested services and in regards to issues relating to their account we reply via email or phone, in accordance with the users wishes.

Sharing

 Legal Disclaimer
Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.

 Aggregate Information (non-personally identifiable)
We share aggregated demographic information with our constituents and the public. Many of GISD's activities are supported with public and grant-funded dollars; therefore, requiring aggregate information for reporting purposes. This is not linked to any personally identifiable information.

Choice/Opt-Out

Users who no longer wish to receive a GISD newsletter and/or other communications may opt-out of receiving these by replying to unsubscribe in the subject line in the email or email us at gisdweb@web.gisd.k12.mi.us

Surveys & Contests

From time-to-time, our site requests information from users via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name, school district, address and phone), and demographic information (position, gender and age). Contact information will be shared with the contest sponsors to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site. Users’ personally identifiable information is not shared with third parties unless we give prior notice and choice. Though we may use an intermediary to conduct these surveys or contests, they may not use users’ personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.

Chat Rooms, Message Boards and Public Forums

Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online--for example on message boards, through email, or in chat areas--that information can be collected and used by others. In short, by posting personal information online that is publicly accessible, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.

Security

Protecting your privacy and your information is a top priority at GISD. We have taken careful measures to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of your information. Once we receive your information that was entered into our Web site, it is stored behind a firewall. All GISD employees are aware of our privacy and security policies. Your information is only accessible to those employees who need it to perform their jobs.

Correcting/Updating/Deleting/Deactivating Personal Information

If a user’s personally identifiable information changes (such as zip code, phone, email or postal address), or if a user no longer desires our service, we provide a way to correct, update or delete/deactivate users’ personally identifiable information. This can usually be done by sending an email to gisdweb@web.gisd.k12.mi.us or contact us by telephone or postal mail per the contact information listed below.

Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement on the homepage and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

If, however, we are going to use users’ personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. However, if users have opted out of all communication with the site, or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Web site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.
