Providing Genesee County learners with a telecommunications
path to the world... GenNET is an electronic pathway to the world that allows voice, video, and data transmission over fiber optic cable interconnecting 21 local school districts and the Intermediate School District in Genesee County, Michigan. The 22-member GenNET Governing Board was appointed to guide construction, implementation and use of the education network. Subcommittees, including Agreement/Policies, Finance, Construction, Public Relations, Program Support, Technical Support and Evaluation/Assessment, are hard at work to ensure that all aspects of the network are student- and staff-ready. These 21 school districts and Genesee Intermediate School District own and operate the network through representation on the GenNET Governing Board. As one of the most successful educational networks in the country, GenNET integrates the use of technology to provide opportunities and solutions to the specific instructional and communications needs of its membership. In recognition of this achievement and ongoing endeavor, the Michigan Association of School Boards presented GenNET with the Special Achievement Award (April 2000) in recognition of its outstanding technology program.
