Virtual Shared Projects

Shared class projects are opportunities for students from across Genesee County to interact and communication with other students around the county, state, country or world--using interactive videoconferencing technology--for the purpose of achieving a particular learning objective or standard.

Examples:

Read Across America - The purpose of this celebration is to have students reading to students. What they read is your choice i.e., a Dr. Seuss book (this event is in honor of his birthday), a book about your community, a poem or an original story your class wrote. Just pick something you and your students love!

Where in Michigan - This project is designed for 4th grade students studying Michigan. Through video conference technology, students are able to meet other students in Michigan while learning about the geography of Michigan.

Ideas for Virtual Shared Projects:

  • Exchange. What are your students learning that they could share with another site?
  • Issue Discussion. What current events topic or challenging issue are your students exploring? Each class takes a side and makes a presentation based on their research.
  • Issue Debate. Pick an issue that is part of your curriculum. Similar to Issue Discussion but is conducted as a formal debate.
  • Quiz Bowl. This is more fun when more than two schools are connecting!
  • Mystery Quest. Choose a topic where students guess what is presented by the other class such as a geographical location, a historical figure, an author, etc.
  • Coffee House. Students share their literary work round-robin with their partner class.

To plan and schedule a Virtual Shared Project:

  1. Read the Scheduling Procedures
  2. Think of an idea where your students can share their reading and research
  3. Complete and submit the GenNET Virtual Learning Adventure Program Request Form
