FLINT– Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is proud to announce the first graduating class of the Genesee County Career & Technical Education Early Middle College (GC CTE EMC). Administrators of the progressive and unique program graduated 22 students from Genesee County public high schools.
“We are so proud of these students, our first graduating class,” said Jennifer Thomas, GC CTE Early Middle College Coordinator. “Through this program, many students are receiving an associate degree and their high school diploma at the same time and are equipped to work in a high demand field.”
The GC CTE EMC is a three-year high school program designed to allow a student to explore and earn an associate degree, credentials, or transferable credit in a CTE Career Pathway while in high school. In 11th grade students blend high school coursework with college-level coursework, adding additional college courses in 12th grade and completing a full schedule of college coursework in a 13th year by following a specific Program of Study.
Nine of the 22 GC CTE EMC graduates were recognized for an associate degree in Applied Science at the Mott Community College (MCC) virtual graduation ceremony. For the first time this year, MCC recognized early middle college students with a special designation in the program. Students honored this year as GC CTE EMC and MCC graduates include:
