Alexandrea Rutledge and Coach Jen
GISD is proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of one of our own Transition Center students, Alexandrea Rutledge, who has been selected to compete in the prestigious 2025 Special Olympics World Games next month. At just 20 years old, Alexandrea will showcase her exceptional talent in Cross Country Skiing, representing Genesee County, Michigan, the United States, and North America on the world stage.

The 2025 Special Olympics World Games will take place in Turin, Italy, bringing together elite athletes from around the globe to compete in a celebration of athleticism, determination, and unity. Alexandrea is among five Cross Country Skiing athletes chosen by Special Olympics USA to be part of their delegation—a testament to her dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport.

Alexandrea’s journey began in 2017 when Project CHOICE teacher Lisa Voydanoff and Project CHOICE para-educator Jen Carlson introduced Cross Country Skiing to their students after attending a Special Olympics conference. What started as a new coaching initiative quickly turned into a passion for both the coaches and their athletes. Alexandrea, along with several other Project CHOICE students, embraced the sport with enthusiasm, developing their skills with remarkable speed and determination.

The entire GISD community stands behind Alexandrea as she embarks on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Her participation in the Special Olympics World Games serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance, hard work, and the unwavering support of educators, coaches, and the community.

Join us in wishing Alexandrea the best of luck as she represents us all on the world stage!
