Genesee County high school students have exciting opportunities ahead with upcoming Youth Entrepreneurship (YE) competitions designed to inspire creativity, innovation, and business development.
Students looking to develop their business ideas can participate in the Genesee Youth Entrepreneurship “Investor Pitch” Competition. Local school entries are due to Genesee ISD by 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025. This virtual competition allows students to pitch their business ideas via recorded video submissions, with the goal of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and awarding start-up funds to promising ventures.
Another exciting challenge is the Zillion Solutions Competition – 2025, hosted by
UM-Flint. Students can
enter multiple business ideas individually or in groups by February 27, 2025.
Participants have the chance to win Amazon e-gift cards, refine their ideas, and compete for a $2,000 grand prize at UM-Flint. The top three high school semi-finalists will receive $100 e-gift cards, with seven honorable mentions earning $50 e-gift cards. One finalist will be selected to move forward in the competition, with a shot at additional cash prizes, including a fan favorite award.
In addition to competitions, students will have the opportunity to participate in YE Expedition Field Trips, designed to provide hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom. These trips allow students to explore local businesses, marketplaces, and makerspaces while gaining insights from successful entrepreneurs. Participants will also have the chance to visit college campuses, experiencing the energy and diversity of higher education environments. The trips offer a unique way for students to see entrepreneurship in action, connect with professionals, and bring their creative ideas to life in collaborative makerspaces.
These opportunities allow students to take real steps toward entrepreneurial success while networking with professionals and peers. For more details on these events and how to get involved, students should connect with their high school YE club advisor or visit
GISD’s Youth Entrepreneurship Program page.
