Genesee ISD Announces Math and Data Science Events

Genesee ISD is excited to partner with the University of Michigan-Flint to host two events on Friday, May 29, 2026. These events will focus on the future of mathematics, data science, and career-connected learning.

The Michigan Math & Data Summit Leadership Conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Riverfront Conference Center, Flint. The conference will bring together educators, administrators, and policymakers from across the state to explore innovative approaches to math and data science education and discuss how schools can better prepare students for a data-driven future.

Featured speakers include Jo Boaler, Emmanuel Schanzer, Hannah Weisman, and Rashell Bowerman. Attendees will examine evolving math pathways, the growing role of data science in education, and the instructional and policy shifts needed to support student success.

Data Science Day will also take place on May 29, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Murchie Science Building on the campus of UM-Flint. This free event invites high school students from across Michigan to participate in hands-on learning and explore careers that use math, data, and problem-solving skills in fields such as manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and more. Students will also hear from special guest Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, who will share insights on the role data and critical thinking play in healthcare and other modern careers.

Together, the events reflect a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for students and strengthening math and data science education across Michigan.
