Ciera Daniel
Ciera Daniel, Family Engagement Advocate, is the newest Faces of GISD. For the past eight years, she has been a steady and trusted presence in GISD’s Early Childhood programs, supporting children and families in ways that reflect both professional growth and deep personal connection.
Ciera’s path to GISD began as a parent. Her oldest child was once enrolled in the program, and during that time, Ciera experienced a job loss. Encouraged by her child’s teachers and knowing GISD was hiring classroom support staff, she decided to apply. Although she had always been interested in education, and originally imagined working with older students, it was her experience with preschool-aged children that changed everything. Watching young learners grow and thrive sparked a passion to serve families in the community she proudly calls home.
Over the years, Ciera has continued to grow within GISD, serving as classroom support, associate teacher, lead teacher, and enrollment specialist in the Head Start program. Today, in her role as Family Engagement Advocate, Ciera enrolls children into Head Start, connects families with essential resources, builds trusting relationships, and provides ongoing support to help families navigate challenges. She finds the work especially meaningful knowing her efforts are helping create stability and opportunity for families.
Having grown up in the Flint community, Ciera is driven by a strong sense of purpose rooted in giving back. “I take pride in being able to help and serve in the community that I’ve lived in and grown up in,” she shares. “Helping families here makes me feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose in life.”
Ciera says the most rewarding part of her role as a Family Engagement Advocate is seeing the impact firsthand—watching stress ease for families and knowing her guidance helps make daily life a little more manageable. That impact fuels her passion every day.
Outside of work, Ciera enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, visiting lighthouses when the weather allows, and trying new restaurants.
She credits GISD as the foundation of her career and is grateful for the opportunities that have allowed her to grow. “I have learned so many things and been presented with so many opportunities,” she says. “I’m grateful for the ability to grow and become a better part of this community.”
Having come full circle from parent in the program to Family Engagement Advocate, Ciera brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. Her story reflects dedication, compassion, and a deep commitment to service, making her a natural fit for the Faces of GISD program.
