Planning for college, being awarded scholarships, and receiving financial aid is a process! Many seniors are hoping to attend college in the fall after graduation, but they need help staying organized and focused when it comes to filling out college applications, scholarship applications, and most importantly, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Paying for education and training after high school is a lifelong investment in achieving life's goals. Getting there may require the assistance of the State and Federal governments, private financial institutions, family contributions, and individual savings.
In order for students to maximize their financial opportunities, they need to apply now, and to multiple colleges! Students need options, so by applying early and to multiple colleges, opportunities for financial assistance and admissions are much greater.
At the end of December, a new 2024-2025 FAFSA Application form will be available, so now is the perfect time to make sure you have a Federal Student Aid ID and an account through Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education. Each contributor (new term this year) will need their own account to access the online FAFSA form, when it becomes available. A contributor is anyone who’s required to provide information, consent and approval, and a signature on the FAFSA form. To get started on creating your account, visit the Federal Student Aid website.
GISD and the Genesee County Career and College Access Network (GCCCAN) will continue to provide resources to assist students as they make important decisions about the pathway to their future, including FAFSA Workshops scheduled in 2024.
