Ibrahim Sene

Ibrahim Sene

From the moment he graduated high school, Ibrahim Sene knew he wanted a career that created meaningful impact. When his choreographer, Karen Whittaker, told him about a Facilitator opportunity at the Base Camp Challenge Center, he took a closer look at what Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) and Genesee Career Institute (GCI) stand for, and instantly felt at home.

“As a student who would’ve really appreciated more knowledge about career technical education, I knew I wanted to support students in building success that lasts a lifetime,” he shared. In his role at GISD, Ibrahim leads and supervises high ropes and climbing programs, guiding participants through safe, goal-driven activities. He also manages equipment and program standards while supporting team development.

For Ibrahim, the heart of his work comes down to two things: reflection and connection. “When I sit down with students and communicate how strong each one of us can be, it reminds me that I’m exactly where I need to be,” he said. “I absolutely love what I do and the connections I make as students succeed time and time again.”

Ibrahim has the unique privilege of working with the entire GCI student body, as well as students from across GISD and even surrounding counties. “The days I go home and reflect on the laughs, the learning, and the fun of the day, I’m reminded just how important every single person’s work is across GISD,” he said. “I’m just one person, but I get to see the ripple effect of an incredible team.”

Outside of his GISD role, Ibrahim shines just as brightly on the stage, captured in the photograph of him embodying The Emcee—his standout role that earned him a nomination for Best Performer in a Musical. “Finding out that I was nominated was a dream come true. What meant the most to me was how much work I had put into the role and seeing the way it paid off,” he shared.

Theater has helped Ibrahim grow in ways nothing else could. Much of the soft skills he uses today were shaped in the choir room, band room, Black Box, and onstage at Fenton High School. Now, he has the joy of fostering those same skills in others as the Vocal Director for musicals at Goodrich High School. “Watching students grow more professional, more creative, and truly enjoy the process brings me so much joy.”

We’re incredibly lucky to have Ibrahim as part of our GISD team! He brings unmatched passion, heart, and dedication to every student he meets. His journey reflects the very best of who we are and what we strive to offer our community, making him the perfect choice for our Faces of GISD program!
