Elected members of the GISD Board of Education are sworn in.

FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) held the biennial election for its board of education on June 5, 2023. A total of four seats were up for election: one two-year term, one four-year term, and two six-year terms.

GISD’s Biennial Election is coordinated by the Genesee County Clerk and members of the GISD Board of Education are elected by all of the constituent school district boards of education within Genesee County. Following the procedures set forth in Michigan Election Law, the board of a constituent district is required by resolution to designate a representative to the electoral body and also by resolution, determine the candidate(s) the board supports for the position(s) to be filled on the intermediate school board. There were 19 school districts present to cast votes.

DesRae Joubran was elected to a partial two-year term, Salvatore Ausiello was elected to a partial four-year term, and Janis Bugbee and Richard Hill were both re-elected to six-year terms. All votes were unanimous for each Board of Education member, and all terms will begin on July 1, 2023.

DesRae Joubran has served on the GISD Board of Education since being appointed in February 2022. Ms. Joubran previously served on the Kearsley Community Schools Board of Education from 2017-2021.
