Flint, Mich -The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is proud to announce that
effective July 1, 2018, the GISD will take over operations of the Michigan
Leadership Institute (MLI).
Established in 1998 by Dr. Timothy Quinn and Michelle Keith, and acquired
by Dr. Michael Wilmot in 2008, MLI has served school districts and communities
across Michigan by developing, deploying, and supporting outstanding leaders.
MLI is best known for its consulting work with school boards of education to
fill superintendent vacancies as well as its Superintendent Preparation Series
Academy, which was developed in 2000 and is commonly referred to as “SUPES
Academy”. To date, MLI has conducted over 300 superintendent searches and
prepared over 550 aspiring superintendents through the SUPES Academy. In
addition to these flagship services, MLI also provides executive coaching,
governance workshops and facilitation, strategic planning, negotiations
support, succession planning, facility utilization studies, community forums,
and other professional development for boards of education and educational
leaders.
Dr. Lisa Hagel, GISD Superintendent, explained, “The core mission of MLI
(to develop and sustain high quality governance and leadership for school
districts across Michigan) is consistent with our mission at GISD. We believe
that we can build upon the wonderful work of MLI and further develop
opportunities to support leaders and boards of education across Michigan.”
Dr. Steve Tunnicliff, GISD Associate Superintendent, will lead MLI
operations after July 1, 2018, and indicates that the current structure of
providing services will remain intact for the immediate future. Dr. Tunnicliff
shared, “We have worked closely with Dr. Wilmot and the MLI team to ensure that
this transition is seamless for current and future services provided by MLI.
MLI will continue to provide high quality services through its existing
Regional President structure which ensures leaders and boards of education
receive support from proven educational leaders that are familiar with the
distinct needs of the communities in the regions they serve.”
Dr. Tunnicliff explained that, “As a nonprofit under operation by GISD,
MLI will be able to provide additional support by scaling and adapting existing
programs to meet local district needs, while also helping to meet new and
emerging professional development and support for schools on a local and
statewide basis. As practitioners in the field of educational leadership, we
know that there are always new challenges, but that effective leadership and
collaboration can help us meet the needs of the children and communities we
serve.”
