FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate
School District (GISD) is gearing up to spread kindness to thousands across
Genesee County with its 2nd Annual Day of Giving! After a successful
Day of Giving last year, where GISD employees performed more than 1,800 acts of
kindness in 18 hours, plans are underway to surpass that goal with this year’s
Day of Giving effort on Friday, May 31, 2019.
To kick things off, the District
held a Donation Day in February. In addition to their own financial
contributions, employees donated hundreds of items including diapers, baby
clothes and other baby products for a planned baby shower at a local shelter. Personal
care items and snacks were collected for care packages which have already been
shipped to troops overseas. Pet food and supplies were donated as part of a
humane society project. These are just a few examples of many special surprises
GISD has in store.
“We have planned 28 different
projects with a goal of performing 1,900 intentional acts of kindness in 19
hours,” said Dr. Lisa Hagel, Superintendent of the Genesee Intermediate School
District. “We are just waiting to put smiles on faces and warmth in hearts all
across Michigan. GISD employees have spent hours organizing and preparing to
spread positivity and happiness throughout our community. We are going to be
very busy, but we are looking forward to it being a wonderful day.”
Teams of GISD employees will be
out at various locations Friday, May 31, spreading acts of kindness across the
area. The mission is to do something nice for others and hope they pay it
forward to make a positive impact in our community. You can follow the effort
on social media at #GISDDayofGiving.
