Flint – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is partnering with the Genesee County Career and College Access Network (GCCCAN) to host a new series of free events to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Thousands of dollars in financial aid for students in Genesee County goes unclaimed every year. GISD is working to ensure more students and families take advantage of the resources available that can help make college or post-high school education/training possible. Time is running out for graduating seniors in Michigan to complete the FAFSA. So, we are teaming up with financial advisors and taking our Mobile Education Lab on the road making several stops across Genesee County to help students and families complete the FAFSA process.

“The FAFSA helps connect students to grants, loans, and work study opportunities, and it determines the amount of financial aid students receive,” said Patti Yorks, Coordinator for GCCCAN. “The Tuesday Tours are designed to help guide students and their parents through the process of completing the application in a more convenient way by coming to them, because we don’t want them to miss out on the financial resources available.”

Families are encouraged to make an appointment ahead of the scheduled tour date nearest to them to help ensure they receive one-on-one support. Drop-in will also be accepted as space allows. Families who make appointments will receive a $20 gas card at their scheduled appointment!

Three FAFSA Tuesday Tours have been set so that families can choose the day, time, and location that works best for them. The tour kicks off Tuesday, May 24th at 5:00 p.m. at the Flint Farmer’s Market parking lot at 300 East 1st St. in Flint. The next stop will be Tuesday, June 7th, in the Beecher High School parking lot at 6255 Neff Rd. in Mt. Morris from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The tour will wrap up on Tuesday, June 14th, in the parking lot of Bentley High School located at 1150 N. Belsay Rd. in Burton.

Skilled advisors and counselors will be on hand. Parents and students should attend together, since the application requires information from both parties. Participants should bring their social security card/number, as well as their 2020 Federal Income Tax Return and W2 form.
