FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate School District and the Genesee Network for Education Telecommunications (GenNET) have reached a milestone in their mission to make online learning opportunities available to all students in Michigan. This year marks the 20th year that GenNET Online Learning has provided online courses!

GenNET Online Learning is a program of the GenNET partnership, which is made up of all public school districts in Genesee County. The GenNET partnership began 27 years ago with the installation of fiber optic infrastructure that connected all Genesee County school districts in an education network. Services of the GenNET partnership have adapted as technology has evolved over the past two decades and all GenNET services continue to help school districts in Genesee County, and now throughout Michigan, save money. GenNET Online Learning has been a successful cost-saving partnership over the past 20 years in part due to a succession of county education leaders committed to identifying and meeting a variety of infrastructure and instructional technology needs for schools and students.

GenNET Online Learning, which originated to serve high school students in Genesee County, has expanded over the past 20 years to now provide over 82,000 course enrollments to students in all grade levels in 86 school districts throughout Michigan. The service utilizes Michigan-certified teachers and 14 providers that include Michigan Virtual, Edmentum, Edgenuity, and Stride Learning.

The availability of online learning options has become an expectation of schools in today’s education environment. Through the GenNET Online Learning program, schools can offer their students full course loads, electives, advanced placement, credit recovery, and foreign language options. With 3,500 courses to choose from and no contracts required, GenNET Online Learning has simplified the process for schools to meet the growing demand for online learning options. Michigan school leaders who want to make GenNET Online Learning opportunities available to their K-12 students can find more information at www.gennet.us.
