Aspiring entrepreneurs, GISD and Genesee Youth Entrepreneurship Clubs are hosting a Virtual Investor Pitch Competition! If you have an idea for a business or product, make a 60-90 second video convincing a potential investor to help fund it. You could win a Cash Prize to help make it a reality! Get Video entries to your high school YE Club advisor by December 10th.

What:              Genesee Youth Entrepreneurship “Investor Pitch” Competition 
For Who: 
      All Genesee County High School Students
Deadline:        Video Entries due to GISD by 9 pm, Wednesday, December 15, 2021
Where:            Virtual - video recordings of pitches
Why:               Our goal is to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth of Genesee County.  We feel that in creating competition we can help in working towards that end by giving students an opportunity to put their talents to work and earn start-up money for their business. 

About the Competition:

This competition is designed to engage and motivate Genesee County high school students not currently involved in Youth Entrepreneurship clubs, but interested in entrepreneurialism. We hope to attract new students to join local YE clubs who have thought about starting their own business, or are in the early stages of doing so. If you are a students with a business and are looking to earn start-up capital… this is for you! 

Competition Details:

  • Individual students or teams should prepare a 60 - 90 second VIDEO pitch focused on convincing investors to fund their business.
  • The business must be a product, service or non-profit. The exact product or service can’t already exist.  It can, however, be a minor modification to an existing product or service, if the modification more effectively solves a problem.
  • Be as professional or casual as you would like. There are no limits on creativity or enthusiasm, but please no profanity!
  • A Media Release Form is required for entry.  Generic form is provided here 


Important Dates:

Dec.  10           Students submit their videos to the Local School Advisor

Dec. 10-15      Videos are judged at the local level.  1st and 2nd place winners are announced in districts. 

Dec. 15           Advisors enter each student’s video on the entry form before 9:00 p.m.

*Make sure to indicate the 1st and 2nd place winning videos

Dec. 16-19      All submitted videos will be judged at the regional level. 

Dec. 20           1st through 5th place winners from the region announced. 


Cash Prizes:

            District Level:

                        1st Place:         $100

                        2nd Place:        $50

            Regional Level:

                        1st Place:         $750

                        2nd Place:        $650

                        3rd Place:         $550

                        4th Place:        $450

                        5th Place:        $350


Teacher Incentives:

  1. $75 gift card if you have 10 or more students compete
  2. $50 gift card for 6-9 students
  3. $25 gift card for 3-5 students

            *Enter each student and their video on the Entry Form above.   


Judging Criteria:

A rubric with more detail is provided.  Categories include:

  • Creativity
  • Quality of the idea & pitch
  • Persuasiveness
  • Financial Information was Convincing
  • Target Market & Competition
  • Conclusion/Overall Quality
  • Points will be deducted if late or if time requirements are not met
