Expanded Learning

expanded learning

GISD's Center for Countywide Programs provides Expanded Learning staff to deliver student services, and assist local district staff and families in the following program areas:

21st Century Community Learning Centers

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers before and after school programs delivers expanded learning opportunities to students in grades K-12. The service is a partnership between the Genesee Intermediate School District and several Genesee County schools. The program is an adaptive youth development model that reinforces the fundamentals learned during the school day by providing fun and creative learning experiences, after school. Program activities are based on these five program focus areas: arts and culture; fitness and nutrition; academics; STEM; and leadership development. Specific programs include:

  • Literacy through Photography (bully prevention program)
  • Youth advisory councils
  • Youth Empowerment Solutions program
  • Healthy Gardening program
  • Youth Farm Stand
  • Fitness programs, including Saucony Walking Clubs
  • Aggressors, Victims, and Bystanders (conflict resolution program)
The 21st Century CLC Bridges to Success evaluation report is available by emailing Aimee Phillips.

CHILL

CHILL is a comprehensive, 12 week youth violence prevention program (anger management) for boys and girls, ages 9-18, who have been exposed to family violence, stressful situations, or who have demonstrated that they are at risk for engaging in force or violence. CHILL uses a variety of learning techniques that include the use of games, projects, and exercises to assist youth in: learning to practice acceptable behavioral choices; development of social skills; resolve conflict nonviolently; management of life challenges and frustrations; and development of positive communications.
