Service Areas
The Genesee Intermediate School District's (GISD) special education administrative services are located in the Special Education Services building at 5075 Pilgrim Road in Flint. Staff provide several administrative services including:
- Acting as liaisons to the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services
- Assisting with the Continuous Improvement Monitoring System (CIMS)
- Collecting student, personnel, and assessment data for the compilation of state and federal reports and provision of technical assistance to constituent school districts
- Coordinating with education and human service agencies
- Coordinating grants relating to special education programs and services
- Coordinating special education programs and services for 21 constituent school districts and 12 Public School Academies
- Coordinating the web-based electronic Individualized Education Program system (Ed Plan)
- Developing and implementing GISD's Mandatory Plan for Special Education
- Investigating compliance and complaints
- Providing administrative support to the GISD Special Education Parent Advisory Committee and other consumer and provider organizations
- Providing technical assistance to constituent school districts and Public School Academies
- Providing the School-Based Services - Medicaid program
- Supervising center programs
- Assist districts to maintain compliance with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
