Program Purpose
Reading Recovery® is a research-based literacy intervention program designed to reduce the number of first-grade students with reading and writing difficulties. In addition to regular classroom reading instruction, low-achieving students receive daily individual instruction designed to accelerate reading and writing achievement to average grade level. Reading Recovery® is designed for students whose reading scores fall in the lowest 25% of the first grade classroom.
Achieving Potential
The adequate provision of Reading Recovery® in a school means that in terms of literacy:
- Equity can be achieved and maintained
- Every student can be helped to reach full potential
- Every student can have access to the best possible learning opportunities
- Students needing long-term literacy support are identified early
