Fingerprinting and Criminal Record Checks

Regulations

Michigan Public Act 129 of 2005 requires fingerprinting/criminal records checks from the State Police for every new employee hired by a school district after January 1, 2006. Michigan Public Act 138 of 2005 requires criminal record checks by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for newly employed substitute teachers, adult educators, and full-time teachers.

With the exception of school closings due to holidays or inclement weather, fingerprinting is available by appointment only during the following times:

  • Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For Substitute Teachers

For Local District New Hires

The following items are required for your fingerprinting appointment:

  • Valid government/state-issued photo identification, e.g., driver's license
  • Form of Payment for $62.00. Personal check or money order made payable to the GISD or by using credit/debit (Visa, Discover, or MasterCard).
  • Your district-provided Live Scan request form

For Volunteers

The following items are required for your fingerprinting appointment:

  • Valid government/state-issued photo identification, e.g., driver's license
  • Form of Payment for $52.00. Personal check or money order made payable to the GISD or by using credit/debit (Visa, Discover, or MasterCard).
  • Your district-provided Live Scan request form

For All Others

The following items are required for your fingerprinting appointment:

  • Valid government/state-issued photo identification, e.g., driver's license
  • Form of Payment for $67.00. Personal check or money order made payable to the GISD or by using credit/debit (Visa, Discover, or MasterCard).
  • Your agency-provided Live Scan request form
  • Michigan State Police approved fingerprint codes for GISD
