Congratulations to Vanita Wilson for being named Counseling and Career Professional of the Year by the Association for Career and Technical Education.

 

As the sole counselor overseeing 1,800 students at the Genesee Career Institute (GCI), Vanita is receiving this honor for her heartfelt dedication to the well-being of each student. She shows a deep connection with the students and to fostering a supportive community, a key aspect of the work-based learning component of the CTE framework.

Vanita's profound love for the students is intricately woven into her role as a counselor. This love manifests in her personalized guidance, commitment to holistic development, tireless advocacy for access and equity, transformative influence on the institute's culture, and compassionate acts that go above and beyond— all of which align seamlessly with the principles of the High-Quality CTE Framework.

From her active involvement in shaping the institute's curriculum to spearheading strategic partnerships for new programs, Vanita emerges as an influential figure in advancing career exploration and development initiatives. 

 

Vanita was recognized for her accomplishments during this year's Michigan Career Education Conference at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids.
